THE
COMPANY
VECSYS
was founded in 1979, and from the beginning VECSYS has had a very
close cooperation in the speech processing domain with the LIMSI,
a laboratory of the French National Scientific Research Agency (CNRS).
VECSYS designs, produces, and markets products belonging to two
complementary sectors : Automatic Speech Processing and Industrial
Teleprocessing. The competence of the VECSYS Automatic Speech Processing
Department covers the full range of speech technologies, and more
particularly speech recognition and speaker identification.
Among the main applications designed by VECSYS we may quote the
following :
-
Voice input/output in fighter cockpits,
-
Voice environment control for handicapped people,
-
Vocal technology integration in workstations for air traffic control
training,
-
Speaker verification for access control,
-
Automatic Speech Synthetizer in subways, tramways, bus
THE
ACTIVITY
AUTOMATIC
SPEECH PROCESSING
In this state-of-the-art sector, yesterday a scientific curiosity
but now an industrial reality, our close cooperation with the
CNRS from the outset has allowed VECSYS to develop and market
speech synthesis and recognition systems which are among the
most performing in the world.
The
competences of the Automatic Speech Processing Department cover
the full range of speech technologies :
-
speech recognition,
- spoken
language understanding and dialog
- speaker
identification,
- audio
transcription for broadcast documents
- speech
synthesis.
Supported
by its research and development, VECSYS markets a line of standard
products and produces customized designs for industry and public
services. Its competences in the more general area of industrial
microcomputing allow it to handle complete applications in fields
as varied as aeronautics, environmental control for the handicapped,
message broadcasting in public transportation, access control, etc.
INDUSTRIAL
TELEPROCESSING
The association of the most sophisticated microcomputing techniques
with the most performing communication facilities (radio, telephone,
leased lines, etc.) is at the origin of the activity of the Industrial
Teleprocessing Department.
Designed
around portable or on-board computers and management systems for
radio networks, VECSYS develops turnkey applications for its customers
:
-
remote control of industrial sites,
-
data entry and transmission in the field,
-
remote control of bus systems, truck fleets, etc.
In
all these products, a multiprocessor technique in conjunction with
a Multitasking/Real-Time Operating System controls a wide diversity
of links and peripherals in a reduced volume.

RESEARCH
The
company has a wealth of experience in Automatic Speech Processing
and works closely with one of the most advanced research laboratories
on the international level, LIMSI-CNRS.
The
performances of the algorithms delopped by LIMSI are among the best
available worldwide and are regulary awarded top rankings by the
American DARPA benchmark tests (Defense Advanced Research Project
Agency)
VECSYS
is involved in CEE research project such as OLIVE, ALERT, AMITIE,
…
ARISE
(Automatic Railway Information Systems for Europe) |
 |
More
and more people are traveling by train, and they need information
at all times of day or night, wherever they are and with no complications.
Thats's why 14 European partners from the fields of industry and
research have been working on the ARISE project, to develop automated
information systems in Dutch, Italian and French. ARISE is a Data
Communications Application in the Language Engineering Projects
sector managed by the DGXIII in Luxembourg.
One of the French systems is the result of a partnership between
VECSYS/LIMSI-CNRS with the SNCF French railways Research Department.
It incorporates the most advanced speech recognition and man-machine
dialog technologies.
This
automated voice server provides SNCF clients with easy and immediate
access to train schedules.
AMITIES
AMITIÉS
will allow EU and US citizens to access information and assistance
from commercial companies via telephone and the Internet using their
native languages in a natural interactive dialogue. AMITIÉS will
yield a major advance for today's call centres through multilingual
natural language interfaces. It will make the cost of creating new
information sources more affordable so that more services will be
possible with equal access for everyone, at anytime, from anywhere.
